Pure Delicious doesn't start off the way a typical cookbook starts. The first 55 pages were all about the Heather Christo and her family and their struggles with severe food allergies. I would imagine if you were something going through the same thing, the advice she offers would be invaluable. That alone might make this book worth picking up.
I haven't had time to test any of the recipes, as I usually like to do. Things have been hectic around here. I will say, for some reason I thought there would be more vegan or vegetarian recipes, but they were mostly meat based. I guess when I saw "without gluten, dairy, eggs" etc. I just assumed. Which is fine, it's not advertised as a meat-free book. I'm not knocking any points for that. Plus, any meat based recipe can be easily veganized with substitutions of plant based meat, vegetables or tofu (if you don't have a soy allergy, obviously.)
The pictures are beautifully shot and the ingredient lists pretty short. Although, experience has taught me that very short ingredient lists in recipes tend to not impress me. For beginner cooks, I would image they'd appreciate the simplicity.
WOULD I BUY IT: I want to say yes, because Pure Delicious such a pretty book; but, I think I'll have to get back to you on that. For now, I'd say I would appreciate it if someone gave me it as a gift, but I wouldn't go out and buy it.
I received a free copy of this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review. There was no obligation to give a positive review, and if you read my blog, you know I'm a tell-it-like it is kind of girl. I mean what I say and say what I mean, that holds true for my review.
Thank you for writing this information.
